Utility Bag Manufacturing
In the fall of 2018 Footlocker was interested in testing fashion bags in their high traffic US stores. I was approached by a buyer and tasked with quickly designing, developing, and manufacturing a small run of fashion accessories to gauge market interest. I started by analyzing market trends and developing a quick presentation that included trending styles and hand sketches to gauge the buyers interests. After pinpointing a few styles based on utility styles common in street wear I was responsible for sample making these before the final order was made. Upon receiving the final order of approximately 300 bags my small team began manufacturing from our sample facility in Long Island City.
This experience taught me a lot about production processes. While I had plenty of experience making one off, or small runs of goods this was the first time I had made hundreds of the same thing at the same time. Every detail becomes hugely important as one minor error in patterning or communication can result in cascading manufacturing defects. After successfully completing the order we were able to secure an order for more styles the following season
